I started working at Rockwell Collins in 2008. My primary roles are Technical Project Manager and Software Architect. Past responsibilities include System Requirements Lead and Test Lead. Projects managed have ranged in complexity from 2M SLOC to over 8M SLOC. I’m involved with a number of communities of practice, Lean certification (internally managed), have recruited a number of engineers and am an active mentor. I am a member of Lynda.com and frequently take additional classes to help better my team, managment and techical skills.

Technical Project Manager (TPM)
As TPM I coordinate with upper management to define the execution plan (Cost, schedule and scope) and act as the primary focal to ensure that the project executes on time and within defined budget. I am a single point of contact for all engineering teams providing technical leadership of the design and development activities.
Software Architect (SA)
Given cost and hardware constraints it is my responsibility to define and analyze the core functionality to be implemented. If constraints are not met alternative solutions or optimization strategies are provided as part of the preliminary design. Between projects I learn new tools and upcoming technologies to leverage on future programs.
System and Test Lead
This role was held before I was promoted to TPM. My primary responsibilities were to define the requirements to flow down to subsystems and manage test events to ensure requirements are met and are tested to the appropriate design assurance level. If issues are found i was the primary to debug the cause and required fix for issues found.

Communities of Practice (CoP)
Technical Project Management CoP: TPMs coordinate to discuss best practices, common programmatic issues and new cost account management theory. Teams also are created to develop or investigate new tools to better track and meet SPI/CPI.
Management CoP: CoP focused on effective leadership and shaping an environment which fosters creativity.
Test Lead CoP: Members discuss software assurance standards, test methodology, and new tools available to track test results and debug defects.
Technology CoP: Discussion of upcoming technologies and methods which may be leveraged on future programs.
